ChiKeey App UX, UI, & Product Design

The ChiKeey App connects with the ChiKeey Smart Mood Ring to provide hyper-personalized insights and recommendations to instantly shift users emotions, connect with loved ones more authentically, and help users reach their emotional goals.

Creating this APP was super fun and definitely a challenge, as I wanted to break the conventional “like everyone else does it” app design. Given the unique nature of the product and its amazing power, I needed to do several things.

  1. User Trust – to get people to share their true emotions with the ChiKeey product to enhance the recommendation data, people needed to trust that it was going to data mine them. One simple way I achieved this was to completely get rid of the standard account creation and registration process. Gone. Poof. Out of here. The app collects ZERO personal information so the user can rest assured that their private emotions stays just that, private, unless they choose to create a Tribe and share it with them.
  2. Gamification – During my research of ChiKeey competitors, everyone is doing everything the same old boring way. Boxy layouts and boring data charts that most people just glaze over. I took this design out of the box and created a fun drag and drop interface to find your target emotion. For the data and reporting elements, I presented it in a way everyone can understand without having to be a “charting mathematician”.
  3. Not Just An App, An Experience – The whole concept behind the ChiKeey app design revolves around one idea. Simplicity. There is a ton of complicated data coming from the hardware  to the app and the concept can be hard to understand. My goal was to make all that complicated information be a fun experience, be simple, and most importantly be useful to the users. I ran constant design sprints and user testing. Then scratched the stuff that did not work no matter how much anyone liked it, and found the simplest way to guide the user through the experience.
